Five follicles

I know, whooppeee, right? Especially since I only had three on my first scan. And why didn't I post anything about the first scan? Well, my mind was elsewhere. That same day, before my scan, I got a call from my sister telling me she's been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

It's like all of a sudden nothing matters. Whether I have five or no follicles is not as important as whether or not my sister survives. Heck, even my cousin's divorce suddenly ceased to matter. More than anything else, I want my sister to live many more healthy years and continue to be the caring, loving mother she is. Her kids need her. And I need to know that she is all right and that all is well with her.

She has no clue I'm undergoing fertility treatments. In fact, nobody in my family knows, just a few friends who live far away. I have no idea of what I shall tell my sister, or if I should say anything at all.

  2. Hugs! I have a dad who is a two-time cancer survivor. I also work in healthcare PR and do a lot with people with cancer. Be strong and if you choose to share your struggle with her after she's had the chance to absorb her news, I'm sure she will appreciate the opportunity to focus on something else other than her cancer fight.

Yay on the 5 follies side!!!

  3. So sorry to hear about your sister's recent diagnosis...it does put other things on hold when dealing with a life threatening disease like cancer. I remember when my sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006...I was totally focused on her and making trips back and forth from Pennsylvania to our homestate to be with her. I so understand your reasons for not sharing IVF with her when she is dealing with so much herself...give it some time, you will know when it is right to share with her. So happy to hear about 5 follies...praying for ya.

  5. Pearl - I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's illness. I'm sure your heart sank. I understand completely. I am in a similar boat in that my Mom just got results today that she has a small growth in her breast that is cancerous. We find out more next week as to the surgical recommendation. I am saying prayers for you and your family.

  7. I will be keeping you and your sister in my thoughts and prayers. Funny how perspective always finds us . . . in the meantime make sure you still find time to nurture yourself and this process.
